Biographical / Historical

Joseph C. Danielson was born July 6, 1902 in Chicago, Illinois to Conrad Theodore and Ruth Elizabeth Danielson. After graduation from North Park’s Junior College and Theological Seminary in 1926, he received the B.A. degree in 1927 from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and graduated from McCormick Seminary in 1935. Beginning as a student pastor in Florence, Wisconsin in 1924 and 1925, Danielson also held pastorates in Peoria, Illinois (1926 – 1928), First Covenant (Assistant) Rockford, Illinois (1928 – 1932) and First Covenant in Chicago, Illinois (1932 – 1951). He was ordained in 1935. In 1951 he was elected Secretary of the Evangelical Covenant Church, and served this office until 1959. In 1959 his duties changed to those of Executive Secretary of Home Missions, and he served this office until his retirement in 1967. In addition, Danielson also served on the Evangelical Covenant Church’s Central Conference Executive Board for many years, including two years as chairman. He served on North Park’s Board of Directors, the ECC Board of Benevolence, the ECC Board of Missions, the ECC Board of Pensions, and the ECC Executive Board. In 1973 North Park honored Danielson by awarding him the Honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree. Danielson died on May 3, 1989.
