The Vasa Order of American was founded in 1896 in New Haven, Connecticut, as a Swedish-American fraternal order.  Many organizations such as this formed during the height of Swedish immigration to the United States as a means of providing sick and death benefits to members.  The Order was named after the 16th century king of Sweden Gustav Vasa.
