Biographical / Historical

The Scandinavian Fraternity of America was founded on August 12, 1884, in Warren, Pennsylvania. It was one of the oldest Swedish fraternal organizations in America, whose members were men and women of Scandinavian birth or descent, and their non-Scandinavian spouses, between the ages of sixteen and fifty. As with similar organizations of its time, the Scandinavian Fraternity of America formed in order to bring Scandinavian-Americans together for social events, and to provide assistance for sick benefits for its members. The society had no one founder, and its formation was a consolidation of three Swedish societies: the Odin Lodge from Warren, Pennsylvania, Norden Lodge of Ridgeway, Pennsylvania, and the Swedish Brotherhood of Sheffield, Pennsylvania. More societies with similar names from Montana, Minnesota, and Michigan consolidated with the Scandinavian Fraternity Society in the early 1900s.

Based on these records, the last recorded activity of the Scandinavian Fraternity Society was in September 1995.
