Biographical / Historical

The Swedish Engineers' Society of Chicago, Illinois (Svenska Ingenjörsföreningen i Chicago, Illinois), was founded on 10 October 1908, and incorporated in 1912. The object of the Society was to promote knowledge, advancement and cooperation among the technical men of Swedish descent or citizenship engaged in engineering and industrial operations in Chicago and vicinity. Between 1913 and 1932, and again in 1946, the Society published the annual Trasdockan (The Rag Doll), generally issued in January. In addition, the Society published “Notes” or “Bulletins.” In 1921 the Society purchased the Dewes Mansion at 503 Wrightwood Avenue, Chicago, which remained their clubhouse until 1974.
